First Black People Meeting Post 2020 Election(A fly on the wall)

Firstly, I would like to explain two things. The first thing being I chose the image of a man fishing because it reminds me of my father and grandfather and one of the quotes that I remember from my evenings of bible study with my grandmother; ” Follow me and I will make you a fisher of men”. The second thing is “The Black People Meeting” does not exist, it is a figment of “white people” imagination.

For all of my none native English speaking readers; there is an expression in English called “Fly on the wall”. There is an expression in German that carries roughly the same meaning; roughly translated it is “to play the mouse”. Both expressions allude to the speaker’s desire to listen in on a conversation that one is not normally privy to. To be the “fly on the wall” or to “play the mouse” is to go unnoticed in a meeting in order to hear the unbridled truth from the source.

Today’s post is my attempt to give you the reader access to a dialogue that would happen and the “Black People Meeting” if one existed. You are now a fly on the wall.

A black man and descendent of former slaves a citizen of the republic stands and says.

Ladies and gentlemen, please forgive my choice of words but there are good people on both sides. I voted for Mr. Trump because I believe that America has lost her sense of direction. I feel as if the country is sinking into a moral abyss. I have grievances with law enforcement and equal opportunity just like most of you here today. However, I am not ready to embrace any of the ideologies that you seem to want to replace our democracy with. I feel compelled to listen to those that are sympathetic to our cries for justice but I have yet to encounter another “ism” that I am ready to embrace. My ancestors fought and died for this country and contrary to popular belief, I feel that it is quite alright to rally for any president regardless of his color or creed that calls to make America great again. The moral decay on willingness to forfeit all the things that our forefathers fought so hard for is mindboggling to me.

Another black man rises and the black woman that has accompanied him to the meeting nods in approval. He speaks.

The president that you so fondly speak of has done nothing but pour gasoline of flames of hatred since taking office. I can not believe that you had the audacity to quote him! Good people on both sides my ass. Those “good people” as you call them are full of hatred and understand nothing about the principles of their founding fathers. They love to point out that we as a people were not intended to be a part of this great nation that we love. We are conscious of the fact that to them we were never met to have our slice of the pie. We know that all their platitudes about equality and fairness do not apply when it comes to us. They have subjugated us, poisoned us, discriminated against us, they have set the deck and then they taunt us when we lose the game. Now after four years we have elected a president that will hear us. The current commander in chief spent four years trying to undo everything the first black president did for this great country.

After a moment of silence, another black person stands and says.

Have you lost your minds? Ask those abroad that call themselves our allies to show us their track record on how they have treated Africans in the past. Ask them to show you the statues and street names of the Africans in their histories. Ask those that are coming across our borders how they treat African immigrants in their own communities or countries. You are surrounded by urban elites from abroad that will not tell you what happens on the ground daily in their own countries. Yet they scoff at us when we proclaim to be proud Americans? The only reason that they listen to us is that we are Americans in the first place. But they would have us question our democracy while they implement policies that are racist by their own standards. No! I say, America first. They do not really care about us. That’s why I voted for Trump. They have the nerves to tell me that I am so stupid that I don’t understand racism. It’s an insult to my intelligence my father and grandfather are both vets. They only call on America and us when it’s time to fight.

Remember white reader you are simply a “fly on the wall” in this piece. Both Ken and Karin are used to being heard but neither of them has a voice at the “Black People Meeting”.

A black child stands and speaks, this is after all the “Black People Meeting”.

I do not really understand what this fighting is about. This is our home. I love mommy and I love daddy. I love my friends. On youtube it said that Covid-19 is going to kill us all. It said that we are on the verge of a race war and the president is a racist and militias are going to come. Youtube says that rioting and looting is coming. It says that America is on the decline and that it’s too late to stop the earth from heating up. Youtube says that Muslims are going to cut off our heads and we are going to have a civil war. Youtube says that both Trump and Biden belong in jail. My mom says that everything is really going to be alright and the media, that’s what she calls youtube I guess, tends to blow things out of proportion. I guess my question is, “what’s going on”?

The room goes silent then a voice rises above the silence to proclaim.

Our country is young but our democracy is one of the oldest if not the oldest in the world. This is the 46th time that we as a nation have been called to exercise our civic duty. We will not have it dismantled by one man or one party. We are young and we still get excited about our democracy no matter how imperfect it may seem from the outside looking in. It will take more than Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, fox, ABC, the mainstream media, The Washington Post, or The New York Times to bring us down. We are a nation of law and order and a nation that is not ashamed of talking about the power of love and healing. We are unique and our diversity makes us great! Don’t worry this is just something we do every four years. This has been a crazy year and we are a bit antsy and tired. What I am about to say to you might sound corny in any other nation. But we will get through this because we are America.

This too shall pass.
